I’m sitting at the Mazda dealer with my wife’s Mazda3. Nav has been showing 0 satellites for a couple of months. Thought it would be a simple fix, but . . .
I was just told that the whole infotainment center needs a software update. 40 minutes. Grr. I need to get back to work. I’m not mad at the dealer, it’s just . . .
The worst may be that last month I took it to the dealer for the last included oil change and forgot to get this issue addressed then. Now we’re using it this weekend for a roadtrip and also the warranty is up at the end of the month. Hence I’m at the dealer instead of work on a weekday afternoon to get it done.
Update: It only took 20 minutes and all radio presets are intact. Yay!

The other alternative? My mom drove in for an oil change. They found another $2,000 in repairs that “needed” to be done. Instead, she drove away in a new car.
You could also fork over a couple grand for the extended warranty.

You can have them note anything you think should be covered by warranty on the repair invoice to show that you brought it up during the covered period. If they won’t write it down, you do it.

This is very important.

I have a friend in Seoul whose phone’s GPS stopped working yesterday ... he was freaking out thinking something was starting to go down.

Not that this excuses getting the nav system fixed, but I wish Mazda would just get on board with CarPlay. It’s better than what they have for navigation.

Well, could be worse. I’ve been at my Kia dealer for a couple hours now getting a couple recalls taken care of and the 60k service while I’m here. I have a tablet and Netflix though, so it’s not that bad.

I remember a Car Talk call where they told a Boxster owner to write “customer suspects piston slap or other engine issue” on the repair order. Some of the of the best advice they ever gave.

And they gave a lot of good advice.

Happily this was the only issue that has cropped up. I’m comfortable entering the no-warranty phase of ownership with the Mazda at this point.

Yes, I was really only complaining because I didn’t have work with me and I thought it would be almost an instant fix, so . . . onto Oppo I went.

This car is a 2014, and CarPlay didn’t become much available before 2015/2016. Also, some of the nav presentation in the Mazda is more user friendly than the nav in my GTI. But Google Maps does win over all.

Gotcha. Fortunately they got done with mine sooner than I thought, so now I’m just waiting for it to come out of the wash.

I like Apple Maps a lot. It’s really never failed me. Yeah, only Kia has a couple of 2014 models, like the Soul, that can be firmware upgraded to take CarPlay or Android Auto. What I meant was, even now, Mazda is not CarPlay compatible, to my knowledge.

It is not currently but supposedly when they add it they’ll be able to update the older models for it too, anything with the Mazda connect system.

That’s good news. With Mazda’s demographic, they need to have this functionality.

Yeah I’m really surprised it’s not already out. I think people have been able to hack it for Android auto already but not sure about carplay.
